Who can apply for accreditation?
In principle, every organization which is a legal entity can submit an application for accreditation with ASI. There are no formal constraints. As part of the application process, applicants shall demonstrate compliance with ISO/IEC Guide 65:1996 (General requirements for bodies operating product certification systems) and scheme specific accreditation requirements to become accredited. This requires a documented quality management system and suitable structures to safeguard impartiality and independence in decision making for certification. In practice, only organizations of a certain size and experience will be able to meet these demands. Individuals and very small organizations cannot fulfill them, and their application is usually not successful.
