ASI has started working with ASC, FSC and RSPO on implementing the project “Appraise and apply GIS tools in auditing”, supported with a grant from the ISEAL Innovations Fund.
The project will assess and test existing Geographic Information System (GIS) tools to understand which GIS tools are suitable for sustainability auditing and to what extent they contribute to more effective and efficient audit preparation and audit execution. The project partners seek to cooperate with GIS experts, conformity assessment bodies and auditors through a series of virtual and in-person workshops and field tests in Asia, Europe and South America. The results of the field tests will feed into a manual and e-learning assets for GIS newcomers to build capacity on GIS tools and their use in sustainability auditing. In addition, an online platform for a community of auditors to share experience in applying GIS tools and to foster learning will be established.
ASI has just launched a survey to all accredited CABs, to establish a baseline and gather interested parties for the project. The survey asks auditors to share their knowledge about GIS tools and how they currently use them.
