Training of ASI Assessors in 2010: In-house training
Many of ASI Lead Assessors and Accreditation Program Managers have experience working for Accredited Certification Bodies, FSC National Initiatives, and/or NGOs before being recruited by ASI. Once recruited, all ASI lead assessors are required to pass an ISO 9001 lead assessor course, and to complete the ASI tailor-made training process. ASI internal training takes at least six to nine months before an assessor is authorized to perform ASI assessments as a lead assessor. The final confirmation of completion of training is through a peer witnessing by an experienced ASI assessor in each type of assessment for which the assessor is to be qualified.

Calibrations
Monthly calibration meetings took place in 2010 within the MSC and FSC Accreditation Programs. As part of the process to ensure intra-team consistency, the Lead Assessors hold these monthly calibration meetings, during which themes and new guidelines, QMS developments and changes in accreditation and certification requirements are thoroughly discussed. In this way, the ASI system is developed through experience and calibration. Ms. Alexandra Bosbeer has actively contributed in facilitating staff calibration in particular for the FSC accreditation program team.
Peer witnessing
A second part of on-the-job development implemented in 2010 was the peer witnessing process. In this process, experienced ASI lead assessors are witnessed by another experienced colleague. Feedback and calibration through this process strengthens the ongoing professional development of all ASI lead assessors. For more information please contact ASI.
