Progress with ISEAL Assurance Code

Posted on 30 August 2011 in ,

The ISEAL Alliance has started the development of an international Code of Good Practice for Assuring Compliance with Social and Environmental Standards. Accreditation Services International has been invited to the steering committee of this process.

The first ISEAL Assurance Code Committee meetings were held in London between 20 and 21 June 2011. Committee members provided input into the drafting process of the Assurance Code. There was a clear need for guidance in addition to ISO 17065, ISO 17021 and ISO 17011. Participants stressed the importance of impartiality and a consistent method of risk assessment and sampling for different aspects of the assurance process. Working groups on credible assurance models, risk analysis and sampling, scheme requirements for accreditation bodies and auditor competence will take more detailed questions forward.
