ASI Approved as Full Member of the ISEAL Alliance

What is the relationship between scale, impact and credibility? ISEAL’s members and supporters gathered in Zurich in early June to review the current states and trends of sustainability standards and develop joint projects to strengthen the movement. A key moment was the launch of the Scaling Up Strategy, a joint document by ISEAL members outlining their approach to dramatically grow the scale and impact of the movement by 2016. Activities include reducing barriers to certification, coordinating information flows and agreeing on joint criteria for verifying compliance (the ISEAL Assurance Code, see above).

ASI’s efforts to improve the credibility and independence of its governance and procedures were widely recognized. The ISEAL Board approved ASI’s application to join ISEAL’s highest membership tier and become a Full Member. Other new members include the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels (as Full Member) and the Responsible Jewellery Council (as Associate Member).

ISEAL also presented results from a research project to map ISEAL members according to a number of criteria and shared thoughts on the role of standards systems in climate change adaptation.
