The ASI Accreditation Committee reviews ASI’s assessment reports, ensuring that the assessment process provides enough information for sound accreditation decisions and that the recommendations included are justified.

Bo_112Boudewijn van Elzakker has worked in the global organic and fair trade sector for 25 years, with the Rainforest Alliance, UTZ Certified and other ISEAL members. His main activity is setting up supply chains and developing sustainable agriculture practices, primarily with groups of smallholder farmers. He helped to develop the organic conformity assessment, from standard-setting to accreditation and import regulations. With his background in tropical agriculture and crop protection, he manages a department of 20 people in an organic research and advisory organization. Whenever his schedule leaves time, he likes to admire old cars and go hiking.


Michael_Catling_112Michael Catling has 40 years of global experience as an assessor, business manager, and director in third-party product, inspection and management system certification and accreditation. He has played a significant role in the creation and growth of a major international certification body.  Michael is a Chartered Engineer gained through his early training and work as a production engineer in the aerospace industry.


James_112James Sullivan
is a certification consultant with over 20 years of experience in standards, certification and accreditation.  He has worked on social and environmental certification systems including FSC, MSC, ASC, Fairtrade and SAI and participated in the development of ISO’s 14000 and 26000 standards. James was an early board member and later Deputy Executive Director of FSC. He was the founding chair of FSC Canada and one of the founders of the ISEAL Alliance. He lives in front of multiple computer monitors, reads science fiction, does not have a dog and, most importantly, is happily married.


Mike Read studied botany and environmental technology at the University of London. In 1987 he established Mike Read Associates (MRA), a small and highly-regarded consultancy based in the UK which has helped NGOs fund, research, develop, implement and evaluate programs of work around the globe. He has worked to help many certification schemes, including Fairtrade, FSC, RSB and ASC, and is an independent Impacts Code evaluator for ISEAL. Mike also has many years’ experience establishing small businesses and sustainable livelihoods projects in challenging locations. In addition to consultancy work and raising a family with his wife Liz, Mike also runs a small business growing xerophytic plants for sale and attempts to play cricket.
